I don’t post a ton of personal things on this blog. But since this is such a huge milestone in my family’s life, I thought I’d share with my blog readers. A bit more than a year ago, my sweet baby boy came into this world. We have come so far.

I like to joke that I went through hell to get my piece of heaven here on Earth. Weston has won every part of me over, and every day I am amazed at how much bigger my heart can swell without exploding. He is my first born, my ball of delight…my Roo. My wish to him is: May every year be as full of reasons to stare agape, giggle hysterically till you hiccup and personal victories, big and small.

Here are photos from my personal documentation of his growth. Followed by what kept me super busy in my off hours at home–his birthday party.

I decided to do THE HUNGRY CATERPILLAR because I hate the winter and we needed a dose of vibrancy and verdancy to make spring seem a bit more…present. I am very happy with the way things turned out. When i get another free moment, I think I’m going to package up the stuff that can be reused and sell it as a HUNGRY CATERPILLAR KIT….so if anyone is interested for a shower or b-day… leave your email address in the comments and I will notify you when it is up for sale. 🙂

The onesie was made by my talented pal Heather.
I made the pom wreath.
Gina helped me make the accordion medallions.
The rest was put together via lots of searches online for products that looked like they’d go with the theme.
And the cake was by Hy-Vee. It was delicious and darling. Score.
Special thanks to Kelley for taking pics of the gift-opening for me!!!!
The hat was by this Etsy shop.

  • Darbi's Mom - It was a fun party indeed – was so happy to be able to share in my beautiful little grandson’s birthday party. Can’t believe he is a year old. Time goes so fast! The sad part is it means I’m getting older too! Darbi and Neil you did a beautiful job with the food, decorations, and of course, your darling little boy, my precious grandson!ReplyCancel

Here are two more of the mini sessions from the Omaha weekend in October! The first set is another of my sister’s friends… well, her extended family. Brandy & Luke have been on this blog time and again (Brogan has been a poster child of Darbi G PHotography for some time now!!) but Brandy’s brother, his wife and their sweet lil’ girl are new here. Their parents are also pictured. This brave family sniffled through much of the session due to the temps in the low 20s. They blew on their hands, they cuddled and they thought warm thoughts! The kiddos were troopers, what can I say?!

And then a few more from another session. Kim is Brandy’s aunt! (Brandy is in the above photos!) I had such a good time making them giggle and make fun onf one another. (wink wink.) And 16-year-old Blake was such a good sport. He even acted like he loved his parents! 😉

Thanks to both parts of this great family! I enjoyed it…and hope you thawed out quickly. xo

Once a year, I attempt to make it back to where I grew up (Omaha!) and hold a weekend of mini sessions. Because September and October were so busy with weddings and other things, I couldn’t do the mini sessions until the last weekend in October. Which meant SUPER FREAKING COLD TEMPERATURES. And that means, I had SUPER FREAKING AWESOME clients who braved the frigidness. Like noses were dripping and stiff to move…fingers were ice…. the chill that gets into your bones. The first session on this post was actually the 2nd of the day and the 2nd post was the first…(the uploading got messed up, sorry!) So that’s right…the bravest of them all was a 1-year old…

The first session was at 8:30… and it was 24 degrees out!!!

(And if all goes right this year, I will be holding these sessions again at the end of Sept or early October in hopes we beat the silly horrid low temps!!)

First up… the E family. The mom, Natalie, is my sister’s good friend. And she and Jeff make MODEL-icious kids.

OnceSeriously….how can she be this young and already know how to work those puppy dog eyes!!?

And again, the first family to kick off the weekend. They look all warm and cozy…but that is soooo not the case! Sara is someone I met in preschool…and I find it so cool that we had our kiddos just 4 months apart!!!! Lil’ Harper couldn’t be more darling (or look more like Sara when she was that age!!!)

Thank you to the E & O families for manning up and owning the arctic embrace of an early winter!!!

More mini sessions to come!!!!

I was very excited when Adam contacted me last fall to shoot the engagement session of him and his fiance, Sarah. Adam and I had a class together in college, and though we never really talked, it was fun to meet him in person on very different terms. Oh, the places we all end up, eh?

Adam is in marketing and Sarah is a dietician. These two are yet another Darbi G. couple who found one another in cyberspace. The kicked off their relationship in the flesh over gourmet burgers at Blanc here in town. Sarah says she actually went on eHarmony more to just have fun with dating, but after a few dates with guys who just weren’t worth a 2nd go around, she knew something was for real when it was Adam who sat across from her.

Their connection continued to grow and a bit more than a year after they started dating, Adam proved to be a sneaky guy and got into Sarah’s house to spread out rose petals on a path to the living room where he had spelled out MARRY ME with summer flower. And because he ran out of flowers to make a question mark, he jokes that it was more of a command.

When Sarah showed up not long after he had finished his flora masterpiece, he was there waiting on one knee. Her “Yes” was spoken and they celebrated at another fave restaurant, Bluestem.

For their session, they opted to do a bit of what I call “block exploring.” we picked a starting location in the Crossroads and then meandered around, shooting wherever the light or colors called to us. I remember laughing a lot with these two!!!

I wish you both a wonderful ever after, Adam & Sarah! And…go ,MIZZOU!! 😉

EDITED: Today, January 10, is this lil’ man’s birthday!!!!!! YAY. Way to turn 1!! I know it’s so bittersweet for the parents… I’m encroaching on the milestone myself. Here’s to soooo many more wonderful years with this smiley blue-eyed cutie! xo

I cannot say enough about this family. You may have seen them before on my blog. This is Caleb and his parents, Mike & Katie. Caleb was born 2 weeks before Weston was, and since Mike works with my husband, we stay up to date with one another. It’s always cool to have friends who experience the same life stage that we’re going through, as we go through it.

And Caleb is a peach and a half. He’s darling…blue eyes… baby face… and expressive eyebrows are my dream come true. For this session in the fall, I went to their house and we just went with it. It was a cloudy day so their wardrobe colors popped!! Their dog even got to show face. My favorite series is the set of three pics below with her and Caleb front and center. 😉

And I kinda missed lil’ Caleb when I drove off that day… so it was a good thing I was headed home to my own son.

I hope you enjoy seeing these pics as much as I enjoyed taking them! I hope to see them again in the New Year! 🙂
