David and Bailey both work in finance, but in very different ways. The groom, a CPA; the bride is a financial counselor for couples seeking reproductive assistance through KU health care system. But before they were THEM together, they were Blue Jays. At Creighton University, that is. And both were very rah-rah team spirited… Bailey was on the dance team (she even won the MOST INSPIRATIONAL award in 2012!) and…drum roll…. David was the mascot… Billy the Bluejay. Tell me that isn’t a match made in blue & white heaven!!!? They met in the student center the night President Obama was elected in 2008. They talked all through the night. When he texted her two days later with “Hey Bay Bay, did you go to Spanish today?” something clicked in Bailey’s mind as she realized right then that he was “silly and kind and caring and just the perfect guy for me.”
David echoes that sentiment on the flip side. He says, “We have always made an effort to see each other every day and the fact that she still WANTS to do that after 6 years makes her THE one!
Before they could officially become one another’s one, one question had to be asked. David chose Bailey’s 24th birthday to do it. In her words, “He invited me to his apartment before a birthday lunch. When I got there, his apartment was spotless–which should have been a giveaway, but I was clueless. I asked if I could open my birthday present and he said yes. I opened up the box and it was a bottle of jewelry cleaner. By the time I looked up he was down on one knee and that’s when he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.”
When they weren’t planning a wedding, and now in their post-betrothal lives together, they fill their free time with one another doing anything from playing with their puppy Jojo, going to St Louis Blues hockey games or Cardinal baseball games, and of course, heading back to Omaha for Creighton basketball games. (David regrettably now attends Jay games in his own skin…). They also are enthusiastic season-ticket holders for the Starlight theater.
Dearest Bailey & David,
At the beginning of every wedding season, I wonder to myself if this is going to be the year I get any bridezillas. And at the end of the season, I realize I didn’t have ONE. Seriously. I have THE best clients. The sweetest brides. Good sports for grooms. Families who are loving and welcoming to ME! And bridal parties who make me feel like I could hang out with them.
But Bailey & David, your wedding took the Darbi G. norm to a new level. EVERYONE was so incredible amazing to work with… there were no tense moments at all. Bailey, you exuded graciousness, and David, you held true to your playful, charming self. Even when you were sweating intensely after the AC on your limo bus went out, you were laughing… rolling your…fanning yourselves, but never once did you become anything less that sweet and upbeat. I commend you both. 😉
I love that you used a color palette that meant something to you– blue and white…for Creighton. And yet, the wedding was anything but sporty in feel. Eloquent, romantic, fresh and lovely though? Yes. There were so many easygoing moments, sweet moments, funny moments and just simply happy moments. But perhaps the most entertaining moments of the day came during the father/daughter dance. Bailey, your dad was refreshingly and endearingly sentimental, tearing up a few times throughout the day, but the love he has for you became even more apparent when he kicked his inhibitions to the curb and partook in the dance you choreographed… He has mad skills! Seriously. I can’t believe I have an entire gallery of pics from your dance… here.
DAvid, it was so good to once again work with your family. {His brother was my groom 2 falls ago here in Kansas City! Clare was pregnant during the wedding but they have since added a precious little boy to the family. CONGRATS, GUYS!} That your parents and you trust me yet again to play such an important role in ensuring your wedding is treasured properly is incredibly flattering, and speaks to my main goal of my business–to be worth coming back to again and again.
I hope you’ve both enjoyed your newlywed-dom and I look forward to working with you on finding the perfect art for your walls! Thank you for being another ideal couple to work with, but for standing out in your own fun, silly and totally sweet ways. You two are the best!
xo,
Darbi
